The healthcare sector has a considerable impact on the environment. It has been estimated that the greenhouse gas emissions caused by the NHS are 22.8 million tonnes of CO2e per year. Moreover, the provision of healthcare contributes to air and water pollution.
To reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050 in line with UK government targets, every organisation and specialty will have to play its part.
The Centre for Sustainable Healthcare in partnership with Health Education England is hosting a conference on sustainable dentistry. The event will address what dental trainees, high street and community dentists and dental commissioners could do to reduce the environmental effects of dental care, engaging and inspiring dental professionals to embed sustainability in their day to day practice.
